The New Canaan Community Foundation is pleased to join our donors in acknowledging the accomplishments of local students.
The New Canaan Community Foundation manages award funds established by donors to recognize accomplishments of local students, or to honor an extraordinary person.
The winners of these awards are graduating seniors selected annually by New Canaan High School, based on criteria established by the donor who created the fund. Recipients are acknowledged at the spring awards ceremony.
Community Impact Award
The winner of this award has a demonstrated history of volunteerism for nonprofit organizations, whose service to the community made a difference in the lives of others, and who believes that service is a means to improve the quality of life for all residents. The awarded student recommends a nonprofit organization that receives a grant of $500 in their name from the Foundation.
Team Jim Scholarship Award Fund
The McKennan Family created this fund in memory of Jim McKennan, a New Canaan resident who passed away in 2008. This award serves as a permanent legacy to Jim and a tribute to his gracious manner. Recipients for this award are selected by the Varsity Soccer coaches and the Director of Athletics. The financial award is presented annually to two students, a boy and a girl, who played Varsity Soccer and embody Jim’s passion for the sport of soccer as well as his qualities of caring, kindness, humor, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Jack Jacobs Congressional Medal of Honor Award for Citizenship
This award was established by Susan Boston in recognition of Jack Jacobs’ unparalleled service to our Country. Mr. Jacobs is a Medal of Honor recipient for his actions during the Vietnam War. The selected student has demonstrated selfless leadership and service to others during high school and made a significant difference. The student receives a monetary award as well as a copy of the book “Medal of Honor: Portraits of Valor Beyond the Call of Duty.”
