Are you applying for the Sapienza scholarship and wish to be considered for the Dorrico Rotary award as well? It’s simple and easy.
Joseph F. Dorrico served as President of the local Rotary Club, and worked as the postmaster in New Canaan until his retirement in 1977. Mr. Dorrico passed away in 2010 but his legacy will live on, through this award fund. In 2009, just before Mr. Dorrico’s 90th birthday, his family established a scholarship fund in his honor as a tribute to his loyal service to the New Canaan community, both professionally and as a volunteer.
The Fund makes an annual award to support the education of a New Canaan resident who has demonstrated a similar loyalty to the community through volunteer service.
To be considered for the Dorrico Rotary Award, students should complete the Sapienza scholarship application and indicate their interest in this award as well. Students should include a description of their dedication to community service and why they should be selected for this honor.
The Sapienza scholarship committee will recommend three candidates to the leadership of the Rotary Club of New Canaan. They will make the final selection of the award winner.
The winner of this award will receive $1,000. All scholarships are sent directly to their school.
