YPF Meeting Outline
The Young Philanthropists Fund Steering Committee meets once a month between September and May. The 90-minute interactive meetings cover topics such as how non-profit organizations fit into our communities and serve local residents: how they manage their budgets, fundraising, finances, and investments, and how donors evaluate a nonprofit organization in terms of selecting grant proposals for funding. Several meetings are spent reviewing and discussing grant requests from the Fund. Additionally as the YPF Steering Committee has the privilege of recommending grant awards, the Steering Committee is expected to develop a "fundraiser" to add additional funds to the Young Philanthropist Fund.
The meetings are designed to lay the foundation needed for the Steering Committee to carefully evaluate the grant proposals presented for funding from the Fund. Staff and Board members from the Foundation lead the class discussion and hold meetings at different nonprofit organizations in town, to encourage students to learn about local resources.
