“The day-by-day work of the Foundation, its donors and the agencies it serves—is about much more than money. It is about the fabric of a community.” –Julianne Grace, President NCCF

About NCCF

What are community foundations?

Community foundations are tax-exempt public charities created by and for the people in a specific geographic area. The community foundation manages what is, in essence, a community savings account, a collection of gifts and component funds, large and small, given to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of the local community.

Individuals, families, businesses, and organizations create these charitable funds that help their region meet the challenges of changing times. The community foundation invests and administers these funds.

All community foundations are overseen by a volunteer board of leading citizens.

Community foundations:

  • Know their communities
  • Share your interests
  • Care about the future
  • Offer giving vehicles that are easy to set up and manage and that provide tax benefits

Why work with a community foundation?

There are many reasons to work with your local community foundation. Community foundations go beyond simply making grants that advance charitable activities. They also identify current and emerging issues, channel resources to address their communities' needs, and help their regions prepare for the future.

Partnering with a community foundation such as NCCF enables people with varied philanthropic interests and with great or modest means to easily and effectively support the community, regional or national issues they care about – immediately, or through their wills.
