Are you a New Canaan resident attending a non-profit educational organization like college or graduate school? Do you have a demonstrated need for financial assistance to continue your education?

We might be able to help! Follow these steps to apply for a Sapienza scholarship.

New applicants should:

  • Complete and sign the scholarship application.
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form online and submit a Student Aid Report (SAR) which shows the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) to the cost of the education.
  • Submit your most recent Federal tax return Form 1040.
  • Provide the Financial Aid Award letter from the school you will attend.
  • Submit a written, signed statement of financial need, outlining the family’s overall financial situation and the need for assistance.
  • Provide an official transcript, which should be sent directly from your most recent school.
  • Write a Personal Statement describing your educational and career objectives and future goals.
  • Provide one reference which must be sent directly to the Foundation by the person writing the recommendation. Download the recommendation form.

Returning applicants who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher are eligible to re-apply for scholarship assistance. The process is simplified:

  • Submit a new application.
  • Provide updated financial information.
  • Provide a current transcript from your school.

All award decisions are made in June and payments for each semester are sent directly to the non-profit school. Typical scholarship awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 per year.

Applicants with a demonstrated history of community service can ask to be considered for the Dorrico Rotary Scholarship as well.
